Plague Tapes #119

Any dry Sunny morning in December, you got to welcome, and Dr. Groove took this bright start as a chance to get this show together.  It turned out to be a show of two halves of the one whole show, or at least two sets within in that show, and there you go.  Dr. Groove had a few drinks listening to Jack McGowan in Beginning To End.  After our oranges and refeshments at the break, we start the second half, with a warm up – Beverly Glenn Copeland’s Slow Dance starts you off.  Bring the others in your bubble into the dance around the kitchen dresser, collective movement leads to the palace of bemusment, and we all need to go there once in a while. 

News:  Andrew was dragged away from the twitter wars to bring the rest of us up to speed with the Covid-19 / Omicron Xmas wave.  It is getting worse – so don’t be fooled by the low cases yesterday, of 3,628, as if three and half thousand cases is low, then we also had 5,124 postive swabs and an increase of 116% on last Friday’s figures.  Then, Andrew illuminates what we are beginning to know about Omicron.  The top trump that appears to be emerging is how much fitter [Iller / more contagious] it is.  We talk about the alarming data emerging in the UK with their 98,000 cases yesterday.  Yet with all this data, we stumble on, in a media black out, and close the pubs at 8 bells, and rock on towards Christmas.

Plague Tapes #118

A dark Monday in December, and Dr. Groove tries to bring you a musical prescription bringing you the introduction about LOVE and other postive words ending in ‘ion’.

News: Andrew tells us that the news does not look good.  We are dealing with the 4^th Wave of Delta, but the data on Omicron – saw Denmark go from 3 -> 581 in 10 days.  Scotland went from 9 cases to over a 100 in a week and it is not in lockdown [ Dr. Groove throught they were in this news edition] – even though it is looking at introducing stricter measures to deal with a ‘tsuanmi of omicron cases’ as per Nicola Sturgeon.  We go back in time to June and the idea of how to deal with delta and Covid 19 became endemic.  We are now going to deal with ‘parallel surges’ one being delta, one being Omicron.  4,500 cases, 1.3% hsopitalisation of cases and we await the new variant, which always appears as quite for a while and then a line that shoots up.  Pehaps it would be a good idea to have NPHET do a press confernece where questions like this can be asked and we can try and find out what is going on.

Plague Tapes #117

Storm makes smitthreens of the gazebo and destoys the bins on rubbish day, so Dr. Groove locks himself in the studio and brings you over an hour of music, you can join him on his cloud.   That is the Love section, and then the news section, for the rage.  On the clooud there are some mellow tunes and then we go to Andrew with the latest shennaigans coming from the big house and NPHET. 

News:  Andrew is here to tell us that they inability to get accurate figures is jumped on by certain meatheads to tell us that the numbers are going down.  No understanding but lots of mouth.  That’s the way it works in this land.  We are bumping along at 4,500 cases a day and still awaiting the arrival, the inevitable arrival of Omicron.  Positivity is up at 16% again, and we have only one confirmed case of Omi.  But it’s spreading in the UK and will be in the North.  So Christmas will bring with it this, and we think that the R value is 3.5 – 4. Althrough it is hard to get hard data and do comaprisons at this stage.  The Oslo restaurant is a scary story that you should be aware off.  Andrew explains the governments botched attempt at muzzling NPHET, so we are expecting that they might allow our Public Health Experts hold a press conference in these uncertain times.
