    Plague Tapes #113

Physcian heal thyself and this plague tapes comes at the end of a sick week for the Doctor.  But Plague Tapes is all about sickeness, isn’t it.  That and music.  I am recovered enough to put together another low-fi show of music which will not have you buck leaping about the place, but there’ll be other days for that, instead we start with dubby flanging.  Listen out later for the wonderful poetry of Rodger Robinson in ‘The Missing’ accompanied by The Bug.

    Poet: Rodger Robinson

News:  Cases nearly broke the 3000 [2966]  yesterday, so we bring you another news section where Andrew brings you up to speed with all the latest stats and facts about Covid.  The predicted peak at the end of Novermber appears to be arriving sooner than that, and the figure of 92 in ICU appears to be holding steady.  That is a figure that we will be paying a lot of attention too, as we move forward into this period of reopening and personal responsiblitly.  It is looking likely that we are in this now for the Winter.  The UK have been pushing this for at least 4 months, a ‘let it rip – break through strategy’ and are only now beginning to see a decline in figures which could be a temporary dip.

    Love & Rage,

    Dr. Groove

    Plague Tapes #112  What Exit?

Partying in such a way to help the markets, [I.e. Niteclubs] came back on Friday night.  But this whole talk of Exit’s and ‘going back to normal’ appears massively premature given where we find ourselves.  All this means that Plague Tapes rumbles on, and this week Dr. Groove brings back some tunes he heard and others that were influenced by his trip to Utopia, which is otherwise known as the Kevin Barry room in the National Concert Hall.

We have the news from Andrew which follows

News:  Andrew comes back to tell us what it looks like in the war against Covid.  It is quite sobering, as it will be to anyone who has been watching case go up over 2400 recently.  Effectively it appears that the decision is to press on – such as opening up nightclubs with no restrictions in spite of evidence from here and elsewhere that this burst for an exit has not worked.  This also puts massive pressures on our health service which is already under massive strain.  NPHET are back talking to us.  But this charging for the Exit appears to be doomed, someone’s switched off the sign, and the famous door out is no longer visible.  What can be done?  The answers are somewhat limited.  You know what to expect in this news.

    Love & Rage,

    Dr. Groove

    Saturday   16th October  14.00hrs

    Plague Tapes #111  The return

Just when you thought you were done, they get pulled back in.  Dr. Groove was considering coming back with a show just of music and musings, as is the format of Groove on the Wireless, but instead Covid raises over 2000 cases a day, Andrew tweets about a fifth wave, [because he’s the one that’s been doing all the counting] and we get pulled back into public broadcasting mode of Plague Tapes.

Dr. Groove has not been having a great day, and that led to a section of tunes which are driving riffs and the soundtrack for a fight.  Andrew gets pulled back into the studio to tell us what’s going on with the Corona.

News: Folks have been demanding that Andrew comes back and tells us what the hell is going on.  There is an absence of information, because the narrative was we were going back to normal, and we thought that 92% vaccination was enough, and the figures bouncing up to 2000 cases a day and case figures of 135% of what it was last week are now indicating that this return to normal may not be as smooth as predicted, or even possible.  Is this a spike or is it going to continue to rise.  Incidence is now over 400 per 100,000 and the most astounding figure of all is that 2 out of three people in ICU are from the unvaccinated  Andrew discusses what the longer term consequences of living with Covid, or of allowing it to become endemic are.

    Love & Rage,

    Dr. Groove
