Plague Tapes #106
Plague Tapes starts off with some songs for Charlie Watts, for the stones were really Charlies band. Then have some sublime Robert Wyatt and Ivor and drift into the old and the new music that makes up these shows. There are some crackers in there, new ones from SuperState and from Helado Negro to listen out for. There is also a great mix by TSHA – a house rave set in The Lab in London which you should track down.
News: Andrew tells us that we are in the same place as last week, and we appear to be moving inexorably towards the exit door. Yes, we have pinch points and things to be conerned about like ICU beds with us having 55 occupied, and we have 300 beds in the country, and it should operate at 85% capacity, so you don’t want over 50 cases taken up with C19 cases. 50% of thsoe in ICU are unvaccinated. There is an expectation that the peak will be hit by mid / late September but we are going to ride it out. 5 day case average is 1,754 and news just in, we had 99.7% of the cases that we had last week, so we have that 0.3% decrease going for us.

Plague Tapes #105
This PT was recorded because I got a gizmo for doing all that recording from vinyl and through the mixer mullarkey beause I lost my previous one. I started as a test case on Monday and it led to a full show. I hope that you hear it and it is all lovely and smooth for you. I even found a track called The Plague That Never Ends, which is a little how I felt on Monday as I was missing being in crowds. When we emerge from this let us be like the warrior, Geronimo.
News: Andrew fills us in on the plague news about the battle against delta and the gamble that is invovled in tyring to make this the exit wave, and not just a wave. The good news is that we have seen a plateauing in the the case numbers, but the 5 day average is still disturbingly high at 1698 cases. But the HSE has said that when they reach out to close contacts they are finding that 45% of them are double vaccinated which is helping in the slowing down of the virus. 90% of the adult population are now vaccinated, and 64% are what I call double dipped. So we are now riding this out, on the basis that it does not rise rapidly again as we head into opening up both the colleges and schools.
